28/07/2013 I've just spent a couple of days re-doing the substation simulation so that I can get more layers into the metal. After a chat with Kiril it was impressed upon me that this was important. This took some doing but amazingly I have got 5 layers into a 2mm skin and it meshes without complaints. Anyhow for now the actual substation model has been simplified considerably to just a cuboid, however there is no reason why further detail couldn't be added again later if it was desired.
17/07/2013 In response to the recent reports issued by VF I am going to try to run two different Hall models. One is an all air model (where the BH curves have all been set to air) and one is a standard model. The second difference with these models is that all elements are set to 'LINEAR' with surface elements set to 'CURVED'. In principle this should give a very fast solve. It will be interesting to see... Both models are step IV 240Mev/c solenoid. The

July 2013 models.16/07/2013 The shield wall models show an effect from the discontinuities in the shield wall, however the small size of the wall makes it hard to do a direct comparison with the MICE hall. Further details can be found in this presentation.
03/07/2013 Just a brief comment to state that the work with the more realistic model of the shield walls is progressing well. A couple of test models are running but we don't yet have a solved model due to the long solve time of the model. The detail in the model requires a high mesh resolution which gives a long solve time. I am now awaiting some more accurate dimensions for the model. I am also awaiting the completion of one the test models so that I can ascertain how the model looks in the post-processor, to ensure that everything looks ok. Other than this I should shortly be in a position to try and run the first proper model to obtain some information on this problem.
