Exam Format
As described in the page on assessment, the exam consists of
three sections:
- Section A (attempt all questions; 20 marks)
- 20 multiple-choice style questions, similar in format to the progress tests.
This part of the exam paper comes in a separate booklet: you write your answers in the
booklet and hand it in when you leave. This section is intended to check that you
have understood the whole course at a basic level.
- Section B (attempt three questions: 3 × 5 = 15 marks)
- 5 short questions, each marked out of 5. The topics of the questions are chosen to
cover most of the course. This section is intended to give you an opportunity to
display a reasonable level of knowledge of a range of topics from the course.
- Section C (attempt one question: 15 marks)
- 3 long questions, two on aspects of the main course and the third on the seminars.
This section is intended to allow you to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of one topic
from the main course, or to show that you have assimilated and understood the material
from the seminars.
